Football is MY Sport!
The M&S football programme is split into three primary age ranges plus our development squad programme known as MFC, which is by invite only. Our programme utilises modern and varied coaching methods to create a development environment based on learning through FUN. The programme remains focused at all times on the developmental needs of the individual player within the group environment and runs alongside a termly syllabus shown below.

Born to Play is a football specific, physical play programme for children aged 2-5, aimed at giving children a developmentally appropriate introduction to football. Football is the vehicle used to provide a well-rounded start to their physical, social and educational development improving balance, co-ordination, body awareness, posture, cognitive skills, self-confidence and socials skills. All within shorter 30 minute lessons, with specific themes and low coach to participant ratios.
Emphasis is placed upon FUNdamental movement skills along with an introduction to the rules of the game, spacial awareness and how to apply basic footballing techniques. Confidence is developed in a stimulating environment and players learn through games and their own imaginations. Sessions are still centred on imagination and fun, but are also designed to develop individual player’s technical skills and understanding of match play. The how AND the why become more prominent with an added emphasis on effective decision making, within game related situations.
Games become more directional with specific targets and goals. The focus is on technical and tactical improvement through fun, decision making, team based games. An appropriate environment that replicates the game is created, in order to challenge technical application and game understanding, whilst always having fun.
Our community recreation league, created to support football and social development, providing opportunities for anyone who wants to play, learn, be challenged and have fun but without the external pressure.
Our invite only MFC programme provides opportunities for gifted and talented players to receive advanced training in a professional environment and experience the thrill of training and competing as a team. The programme follows a tailored coached syllabus for each age group, aimed at developing the players technically, physically and psychologically and is delivered by our highest qualified coaches with previous experience at esteemed professional academies: Southampton and Fulham.
A Development Focused Approach
We believe and academic research clearly supports, the children of all ages benefit from learning in an environment that is developmentally appropriate. Children as young as three years old can vary in cognitive, physical, emotional and social development by as much as plus or minus two years. As a result, significant disparity in performance can exist between players of the same age and this is strongly correlated to children’s engagement, enjoyment and participation in any field. At M&S we focus our efforts on long term player development over short term performance gains and as such, our first priority is to create an enjoyable learning environment in which young people fall in love with the game and want to begin, continue or extend their sporting journey and live a healthy and active life. This is achieved through an ability to manage difference, appropriately challenge or simplify within activities, build rapport, effectively communicate, plan, adapt and reflect upon each and every session that we deliver.
